Layla Jones Julien was born on June 17th, 2004, to her parents Robbin and Laura Julien. A short time later, her sister Georgie was born and made them a family of 4. Throughout her young life Layla brought light into every room she entered with her smile, sense of humor, kindness, and inclusion of others.

In August of 2021, just before her senior year of high school, Layla had a seizure that led to a diagnosis of brain cancer that she courageously battled for 16 months. She lived those 16 months with strength, courage, and a desire to live life to its fullest. Her family, friends and the greater community stepped up to facilitate both daily support and memorable experiences to ensure Layla’s focus could remain on living her very best life. She handled her cancer treatments with strength and grace until there were no more options left. Layla passed away on December 13th, 2022, surrounded in love by her parents and sister.

After receiving the overwhelming outpouring of support during Layla’s battle with brain cancer it was clear the Julien’s community of family and friends wanted to continue their support in honor of Layla. Her family decided to start a foundation in her name to continue her legacy. In May of 2023 the Layla Julien Foundation was established with the mission to raise awareness for patients and families affected by pediatric brain cancer as well as to recognize and support those who embody the same spirit of kindness, inclusivity, and community engagement that Layla exemplified.

More needs to be done to cure pediatric brain cancer and the Layla Julien Foundation wants to help fund the research working towards a cure as well as lend support to the patients and families who are affected by it. They also want to continue to remember Layla by staying involved with the schools, sports, and activities that meant so much to her.
